College of Pharmacy Announces Search for Assistant Dean of Student Affairs


Howard University College of Pharmacy invites applicants to apply for the position of Assistant Dean of Student Affairs. This position will also hold a faculty rank as an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor in the Department of Clinical and Administrative Pharmacy Sciences or Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, as appropriate. The Assistant Dean is responsible for providing proactive leadership, direction, and administrative oversight for college-wide matters related to student affairs, student recruitment & retention, student policies, accreditation, career development, and co-curricular program. Responsibilities 
include but are not limited to the following: ensuring compliance with accreditation standards related to student affairs; oversight of enrollment and recruitment processes; drive and strategize student success; serve as advocate for all students in college wide matters; service as an ex officio member of the Admissions Committee, Progression and Retention Committee, and Financial Aid and Awards Committee; oversight of enrollment and recruitment processes; preparing the annual report for student affairs; consult with College leadership on student policies and processes; organize and provide oversight for co-curricular program; oversee career fair and career development at the College; provide oversight for student organizations; lead College events including Accepted Study Day, Orientation, White Coat Ceremony, Oath & Awards Ceremony; update Student Handbook annually; providing input and assistance in deploying student
technologies; contributing to the development and implementation of the strategic plan for the student affairs, actively involved in maintaining full accreditation of the College; participating as an active member of the College's administrative leadership team; and supervising and evaluating the activities and performance of Student affairs support staff.

The successful candidate will report directly to the Dean of the College and collaborate with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and the Director of Assessment. S/he will represent the dean when appointed by the dean to do so and will oversee the daily operations of Student Affairs. In addition, s/he will provide classroom instruction in the curriculum, conduct scholarly activity, as well as provide limited service to the College/University as expected of a faculty member per the University’s employee handbook.

Qualifications include an earned doctorate degree from an accredited institution, in pharmacy or related discipline. The candidate must have demonstrated work experience, a distinguished record of teaching, research, and service commensurate with the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. Other qualifications include a track record of:

The candidate must also be able to demonstrate positive student experiences, strong passion for student well-being and success, ability to effectively articulate the vision and mission of the College and execute the objectives of the Office of Student Affairs.

Founded in 1867, Howard University, located in Washington D.C., is a private co-educational institution of higher learning. The university has over 12,000 students enrolled in 14 schools and colleges. Howard University has a rich and successful history of training “Pharmacy Leaders for America and the Global Community”. The College of Pharmacy is an integral part of Howard University Health Sciences which also includes the College of Medicine, College of Dentistry, 
College of Nursing and Allied Health and Howard University Hospital. The College has 33 FTE faculty, and a number of part-time faculty members who serve a professional student body of over 200 students and graduate students. The College is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and offers the Doctor of Pharmacy degree; distance learning based non-traditional Doctor of Pharmacy degree, and PhD degrees in Pharmaceutical Sciences.
