The New York University Oral Cancer Center seeks an enthusiastic and skilled researcher with a background in neuroscience and/or cancer research. Our research program investigates the neurological basis of oral cancer pain in humans and preclinical models. The research project will study the interaction between oral cancer cells and peripheral nerves (neurons and Schwann cells) in cancer pain and cancer progression. The applicant will be involved in the design and development of experiments including but not limited to the generation of oral cancer preclinical models, behavioral testing, molecular analysis of oral cancer specimens in mice and patients, 2-D and 3-D cell culture, calcium imaging, immunohistochemistry, electron microscopy, flow cytometry, and electrophysiology.

Responsibilities: 

• Manage and drive research projects; design and perform experiments independently; analyze data and generate reports; write manuscripts; present research data; assistant in grant application
• Record, analyze and format experimental data; assist in manuscript preparation, grant application, and meeting presentations.
• Good record keeping for experimental data, project planning, ordering receipts and chemical/mouse/device inventory
• Maintain cleanliness of work area and quality and safety standards; ensure disposal of hazardous and infectious materials; adhere to infection control procedures; prepare required documents for Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee applications for various protocols.
• Supervise and mentor student research projects.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $60,000 - $62,500. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

Applicants should have a PhD in neuroscience, biology, or biomedical engineering related discipline. Applicants should have experience in animal modeling and animal husbandry for both wild type and genetically modified mice. The candidate must have the ability and motivation to work independently and to manage day-to-day running of a research project. Applicants should have great interpersonal skills, problem-solving skills in addition to a strong ability to communicate their science orally and in writing.
